When I logged into Facebook today I got this message about the upcoming NY primary.
The promt is part of Facebook’s voter-registration push, and will stay online for 24 hours.
“We want to make sure people can do the most important act of all of this, which is actually going to vote,” explained Katie Harbath, Facebook’s Global Politics and Government Outreach Director, to the Wall Street Journal.
Facebook has had some experiencing with getting people to vote, a 2010-study showed that over 300,000 people only voted in the midterms, because they were reminded by Facebook to do so. There are worse things than guilting your friends into voting after all.
If users click on the “Register Now” button they are redirected to a governmental site – even if it might not look like it.
New Yorkers have until March 25th to register to vote in the April primary. Read Lady Liberty’s Guide to Vote in the New York Primary to learn all you need to know about voting in the Big Apple.
